PERENNIAL GRASSES – A VALUABLE RESOURCE FOR SOIL FERTILITY AND PRODUCTIVITY
Maintaining soil fertility requires spreading perennial grasses across the entire system of crop rotation so their concentration in grass-field crop rotation should be excluded. Сultivation of perennial grasses (smooth brome and sainfoin) with green-manured fallow exceeded the reference variant (weedfree fallow) by 26% in productivity. Productivities were at the same level in both variants under annual fertilization by N60P60K60. Legumes-gramineous mixture (smooth brome + meadow fescue + hungarian sainfoin + alfalfa) at a ratio of 50 : 50% surpassed gramineous mixture with annual application of N60 by 0.14–0.60 t ha-1 in productivity on eroded leached chernozem. Mixture of legumes and gramineous at a ratio of 75 : 25% gave the same yield as gramineous sward with application of N120. Studying the methods of layland cultivation showed that the highest hay yield of perennial grasses (smooth brome + hungarian sainfoin) can be reached when using moldboard plowing at a depth of 20-22 cm in combination with annual fertilization by N60Р60K60 and treatment with “Roundup”. On the average for 5 years productivity of hay of perennial grasses (smooth brome + hungarian sainfoin) made up 6.33 t ha-1.
