The information of this paper is based on analytical evaluation of the results, presented at 26th General Meeting of European Grassland Federation, taken place in 2016. Climate change and its influence on grassland systems from Mediterranean to Northern Europe received a considerable attention at the meeting. While productivity of Mediterranean ecosystems reduces due to drought, northern vegetation may happen to be under more favorable conditions. However, the number of new aspects appears, which are related to grass utilization under longer growing season, excessive humidity etc. In both regions climate change will result in modification of annual production cycles, requiring adjustment of farmers to regimes of fodder preparation and grassland cultivation. Agroecosystems, containing legumes may respond to the increase of carbon dioxide better than other crops. Breeders must focus on development of crops, having higher resistance to abiotic stress as well as crop adaptation to new seasonal changes and management systems, responsible for productivity.
