• • • Influence of haymaking technology on nutrient and cumarin concentrations in melilot
Coumarin was found in all melilot parts. Drying melilot green mass under various temperature led to coumarin content decrease from 1.14 to 0.48% due to more efficient glucoside hydrolysis. Haymaking, accompanied by active ventilation under 60 ºС, provided leaf coverage increase from 36.8 to 50.7% due to low losses of nutritionally valuable plant organs, such as leaves, flower buds, flowers. Hay yield increased by 0.27 t ha-1. Varying temperature of drying process improved crude protein content from 13.2 to 15.1% and exchange energy — from 8.50 to 8.75 MJ per 1 kg dry matter.
Analysis of chemical composition of melilot hay showed increases in crude ash from 6.9 to 9.9%, crude fat — from 2.6 to 4.0%, while fiber content decreased from 36.6 to 29.5%. The explanation was shortening period of laying hay in field and lower mechanical and biochemical losses as well as preventing development of microorganisms and poor leaching of soluble nutrients through rains. Hay, dried under active ventilation and temperature of 60 ºС, had bright green color and pleasant flavor.
