• • • Efficiency of growing new variety of field pea “Vologodskiy usatyy” for green mass
Pea are one of the most important legume crops used both for feed and food. In the North-West Research Institute of Dairy and Grassland Agriculture, productivity and feed value of new variety of field pea (Pisum sativum L.) “Vologodskiy usatyy” were estimated. Pea was grown in single-species (seed rate was 1.2 million of germinable seeds per ha) and in mixed sowings with oat, barley, and spring vetch (seed ratio 40:60, 60:40, and 20:60:20%). Sowing pea with oat and barley at the seed ratio 40:60%, cereals dominated over legume plants for the entire research period. Maximum content of pea was at a crop ratio 60:40%. In triple mixtures, proportions of pea and spring vetch were low — 18–22%. It was revealed that growing pea variety “Vologod skiy usatyy” was more effective in single-species sowing as well as mixtures with oat at the seed ratio 60:40%. The latter provided the maximum yield of tops — 5.04 t ha-1 of dry matter (DM). Single-species sowings of pea provided the maximum yields of crude and digestible protein — 0.70 and 0.48 t ha-1 respectively. The highest protein content — 15.1% per 1 kg of DM — was obtained in this variant. Among mixtures, pea with barley and spring vetch at the seed ratio 20:60:20% provided the best content of digestible protein — 11.9%.
