Plants that have a toxic effect on the livestock organism and spoil animal products must be timely detected. It allows providing full veterinary care, effectively prevent the poisoning of livestock, and helps to reduce economic losses. This review provides specialists with verified information about the main poisonous plants of hayfields and pastures growing in the forest zone of the European part of Russia. Due to the fact that currently there is no universal systematization of poisonous plants, the basis of the literature searches was I. A. Gusynin classification. Considering this, the materials of scientific articles, monographs, encyclopedias, reference books and manuals were analyzed and selected. The species descriptions include integrated specifications of their areal, constituent bioactive compounds (BAC), as well as conditions that promote poisoning of livestock. The species of plants which belong to the same classification group were compared on quantitative and qualitative content of BAC. The article includes structural formulas of some components to rule out inaccuracies in their names, which are often found in the literature. Such inaccuracies happened due to the lack of appropriate laboratory equipment at the time of the research (before the invention of the electron microscope or mass spectrograph) and the insufficient development of related science fields (chemistry, physics, etc.). Primarily, this information is intended for specialists, working with livestock and crop production, lectures on relevant disciplines as well as for students from agricultural institutions.
