• • • Economical efficacy of iodized yeasts in rainbow trout feeding (Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum)
The research tested the effectiveness of various organic iodine rates as a component of iodized yeasts in feeding young rainbow trout in aquarium. Organic iodine taken to the fish organism breaks up faster, compared to the mineral one and positively affects metabolism accelerating weight gain, reducing feed costs and increasing fish productivity. The experiment used young rainbow trout, weighted around 95 g and divided into one reference and three experimental groups. The reference group consumed balanced trout feedstuff while the reference ones additionally got iodized yeasts with iodine rates of 200, 250, 300 μg kg-1.
Feeding experimental groups with iodized yeasts stimulates fish weight gain. The highest average weight for 7 weeks happened in the third experimental group — 234.9 g (300 μg iodine kg-1). It exceeded the reference group (197.9 g) by 18.7%. Feed costs per 1 kg fish weight gain dropped in all the groups, fed additionally by organic iodine. The lowest fodder consumption occurred in the experimental group, obtained 300 μg iodine kg-1, being 180 g less than in the reference group. Payback for trout production raised up to 42.31% under feeding by iodized yeasts with 300 μg iodine kg-1.
