The research conducted in 2010–2016 in Perm Agricultural Research Institute determined Maral root to have high winter hardiness and longevity. It grows early and fast in the beginning of its growing season. Flowering starts in the first week of June. Crop gave two cuts for a season; yield being formed by leaf mass in the second cut. Plants reached 78–160 cm in height by the first cut and 40–73 cm — by the second one. For 6 years Maral root yielded on the average from 39.4 to 66.9 t green mass ha-1 and from 6.39 to 10.67 9 t dry mass ha-1, depending on cultivation technique. Maral root was highly productive and provided highly nutritional fodder. Contents of dry matter and crude fiber made up 14–22 and 14–22%, respectively. Digestibility of organic matter was 70–7 %. Exchange energy content varied within 10.46 and 12.78 MJ kg-1 while crude protein concentration — within 12.19 and 16.17%. Experimental groups of cows, consumed vitamin-grass meal of Maral root came into heat in time and produced milk, having increased contents of fat and protein. Consumption of such a meal increased average daily weight gain for broiler chickens.
