Farm services business, Ruralco, has broken its silence to confirm Landmark’s giant Canadian parent company, Nutrien, wants to buy the network for about $470 million. If it goes ahead, the merger would reduce Australia’s major farm sector service landscape from three to two players – Nutrien and Elders.

Ruralco, which includes about 500 agricultural selling agency, merchandise and water industry businesses Australia-wide, has entered into scheme implementation arrangement with the North American fertiliser and crop chemical supply business.

Ruralco chairman, Rick Lee, said Nutrien merging Ruralco with its Landmark stable would create “a robust rural services provider, with significant benefits for farmers, businesses and communities across regional and rural Australia”.
