Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia Maxim Uvaidov and Chief Veterinary Officer of Japan Norio Kumagai met in Tokyo. The parties discussed the issues of mutual access of agricultural products to the markets of the two countries.

Both parties noted that relations between Russia and Japan have been developing consistently. Russia supplies frozen fish, wheat and corn to the Japanese market. Russian import from Japan increased by 1.8 times (up to $ 40 million) due to the supply of fish and fish products. The deputy minister also recalled that Russia has taken steps to expand the access of Japanese fish products to the Russian market and is awaiting a response from Japan.

During the consultations, the sides discussed the development of a road map to ensure mutual access of meat products of Russian and Japanese production, the epizootic situation in the two countries, as well as coordination of veterinary certificates. The Final Protocol of the Russian-Japanese Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Issues was signed after the meeting.
