The paper reports on protein content in oat grain as correlated with some economically important traits. The investigation focused on relationship between protein content and hydrothermal coefficient, total precipitation, total degree days, protein yield, productivity and starch concentration. It took place in sub-boreal forest, forest-steppe and steppe of the Krasnoyarsk region. Oat varieties “Tubinskiy”, “Argument”, “Sayan”, “Selma” and “Sig” performed as objects of study. The highest oat productivity occurred in the forest-steppe of the Chulym area. “Sayan” gave the highest yield in sub-boreal forest (2.05 t ha-1), “Argument” — forest-steppe (4.67 t ha-1), “Selma” — southern forest-steppe (4.79 t ha-1), “Tubinskiy” — steppe (4.01 t ha-1). The highest protein content happened in sub-boreal forest, forest-steppe and southern forest-steppe — 0.297, 0.579 and 0.603 t ha-1, respectively. “Argument” provided the best protein yield in steppe — 0,645 t ha-1. Steppe and forest steppe were the most favorable for oat cultivation to improve protein yield per square unit. Decrease in total precipitation (r = –0.538 and –0.695) and increase in total degree days (r = –0.554 and –0.781) positively affected protein accumulation in oat grain (Р < 0.05). Protein content in grain and such traits as oat productivity, protein yield and starch concentration had no significant correlation.
