“BEREGINYA” AS THE FIRST WINTER RYE VARIETY FOR MULTIPLE USE

Paper presents the results on winter rye “Bereginya” that has low concentration of water-soluble pentosans in grain and can be used for livestock feeding as a diet component or pure product and for baking and processing industry. The variety was bred by the selection of genotypes showing low concentration of water-soluble pentosans in grain (0.5–0.8%).

“Bereginya” had high resistance to abiotic and biotic stresses. Variety baking qualities were middling while amylolytic enzyme activity was high. Dry matter digestibility in vitro made up 92.2%, crude protein content— 11.1%, water-soluble pentosan concentration — 0,5–0,8%. Using “Bereginya” for livesctock feeding provided their significant weight gain. “Bereginya” surpass wheat and barley in energy content by 30%.
